Hi, my name is Dominique Letoga and welcome to Kindy Patch Floraville. I have been working in early education for 13 years. I hold a Diploma in Children’s Services and currently studying Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).
Developing relationships with our families is my favourite part of my role at the centre. I am very proud to manage this service and maintain the strong sense of community that we have developed within the centre.
What are you most passionate about?
Relationships with children and families.
I am very passionate about creating a community within our centre for our families and educators. I believe relationships are so important in this industry and the most important thing to me as an educator and manager, is establishing a sense of belonging for child each and their families in our centre.
What inspired you to become an educator?
I always wanted to support the learning of our future leaders. I am passionate about early childhood education and believe it is so important to empower children with knowledge and a strong sense of identity from a young age to set them up for their future. I also believe that we as adults can learn so much from children and their ideas. Spending time talking with children and hearing their thoughts about the world around them inspires me find new ways to provoke their thinking and creativity.
What is your philosophy about educating children?
Children have a natural sense of curiosity and it is vital that they are empowered in learning that supports their individual capabilities. Understanding the way in which children learn is a responsibility of educators, which comes from getting to know each child through interactions and relationships. There is so much value in children’s play and ideas and these should be what inspires future planning. In an early childhood education environment, children should be able to see themselves reflected in the program to establish a sense of belonging.
As a centre manager, my objective is to empower the educator team to have a strong focus on play and interest-based learning for the children and to understand how to respond to individual children’s needs. I believe both outcomes can be achieved through developing secure relationships with the children. A fundamental experience in early childhood are the connections children make with others. Within an early childhood education service, these connections develop into meaningful relationships and create a strong sense of identity for the children. When children feel safe, secure and supported, their confidence to express themselves grows and their ideas of the world around them develop in meaningful ways.
What message would you like to tell parents considering your centre?
Our centre offers a strong sense of belonging for the children and families. We create experiences and opportunities for the children to develop their understanding of the world around them through play. Our educator team are passionate, dedicated and highly knowledgeable in early childhood education which supports the children’s development as they facilitate meaningful learning and play experiences.
We have a strong focus on family involvement in our service and encourage families to share their special moments with us so that we can incorporate children’s home experiences into their day at Kindy Patch.
