Meet the Centre Manager

Megan Jones

What is your name?

Megan Jones

How long have you been working in childcare?

I have worked in Early Childhood Education for the past 11 years. I have worked in many different roles such at Assistant, Room Leader and Educational Leader so I understand just how vital each role is within the Early Childhood setting.

What is your favourite part of working at the centre?

I have always believed in life-long learning and this is something I have always strived for. I love seeing the children’s passion for learning evolve as they discover a new fact that they can’t wait to share or bring their own learning with them to the centre.

What qualifications do you hold?

Diploma of Children’s Services.

What are you most proud of at your centre?

I am proud of the old charm nature of Kindy Patch Largs. The educators have really embraced the farming culture of Largs and have embedded sustainability practices within the centre. Kindy Patch Largs is a true representation of the community within which it resides and shows wonderful ties to those surrounding residents.

What is your favourite inspirational quote?

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela.

What is your philosophy about educating children?

I believe that every child is a unique individual.  All children learn in different ways, and educators, children and parents should work together in order to develop the best ways of joyful learning for each child. Every child should progress at his/her own rate.

I believe that children learn best in an environment where they feel safe, secure and stimulated and are comfortable to be a part of the learning that takes place. Learning is also about taking risks and children will do this and assessing situations of play. Children will do this if they have these feelings of security in their educators and centre.

I believe that play is a very important part of a developmentally appropriate program. Play is a child’s work. It is the young child’s way of reaching out to learn about the world around them.

My role as an educator is to be a facilitator and provide enriching activities so that children are supported as they learn about their strengths and work on their weaknesses. As a facilitator, I support children as they embark on a journey to make discoveries about themselves and learn to recognise and name their feelings.

My goal as an educator is to provide children with a rich environment where they feel safe to explore, initiate learning, and feel free to express themselves.

What message would you like to tell parents considering your centre?

Kindy Patch Largs is a beautiful centre with many home like qualities and educators who are passionate in their roles. As a centre we strive for a high quality educational program all the while providing a nurturing and supportive environment for your child.
